Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness
One of America’s leading problems today is homelessness. More than 771,480 people in the United States are suffering from it, even children suffer from this epidemic.
Homeless people risk many dangers in their everyday lives, from violence to harassment, they can never catch a break.
Luckily there are compassionate people who work hard to help those in need, “caring works Inc” is one organization that shines bright in the fight against homelessness.
Caring works inc. is a remarkable organization that has helped over 90% of clients receive stable housing, receiving major credits in “Atlanta 500” by Atlanta magazine and Georgia titan (2024).
The founder of this organization is no other than Dr. Carol Collard, Dr. Collard has worked in marketing and residential real estate, she also has a PHD in social work, with these skills Dr. Collard worked hard to create caring works inc. to fight against homelessness and empower marginalized communities .
“Caring works was formed nearly 20 years ago, and it came out the realization that for a number of the individuals that are experiencing homelessness they needed more than a roof” Dr. Collard states, a lot of homeless people struggle with finding employment due to social stigmas, there’s also a struggle with mental health and addiction that many people face.
Approximately 20 to 25 percent of the U.S population suffers from mental illness, even if homeless people are helped there’s still struggles with lasting trauma and addiction that many homeless people don’t get help for these problems.
That’s where caring works inc comes in, they offer group therapy, family counseling and couples counseling, and specialized therapy for people with PTSD, depression and anxiety. “We realized with just a little bit of extra support, they could also be respectful and have the right to live independently” Dr. Collard adds on.
Dr. Collard rightfully notes that homelessness is a complex issue more than just people needing a home, homeless people need care and understanding, something many people aren’t willing to give.
So Dr. Carol Collard’s decision to start caring works inc strived to better the lives of homeless people, not only by housing, but with mental health and physical health as well.
Over the years caringworks inc. has made amazing progress, in 2024 over 728 individuals were supported by this project, 94% maintained stable housing, 79% received improved income.
In fact outside of caring works inc, more than 94,000 homeless people exited homelessness and avoided homelessness this year.
“As an agency, we are also united in our focus on our mission and our pursuit of excellence in all we do. We have an enduring desire to always put the client first.” Dr. Collard states,
In conclusion, caring works inc. has done courageous work to help fight back against homelessness, helping people in ways that most people would overlook like with mental health, it’s important to keep this work up and always offer a helping hand to people in need and understand their issues and concerns, Dr, carol collard is a great example of that and it’s why caring works inc. continues to be successful.
